Privacy Prodigy

A Minecraft Education Lesson

This lesson is designed to be used with elementary aged students.  It can be adjusted based on individual classroom needs.

Lesson Summary:

Privacy Prodigy is a world that takes students through different levels of data protection.  Information levels are color-coded based on the level of security that should be applied.  Students are presented with a series of questions and move through the world based on their responses.  A game element is incorporated as the students must place their data with the correct byte to score points and move to the next level.  Once all of the levels are completed, an additional level is revealed where the students accumulate points by defeating spiders in the dark web area to protect their data.

Privacy Prodigy (Google Slides)

Begin the lesson using the slide deck provided.  The deck can be edited to fit individual teacher needs by making a copy of the view only file.  The deck is provided in both Google and Microsoft formats.

Guide students through the world providing time for discussion about key terms, key concepts, and how to move in world. Encourage the students to tell you what to do next so they are paying close attention to what is happening in the world.  This way the students will be able to navigate in future Minecraft lessons on their own.

Assessment

This template is designed to be folded into a six-page booklet.  It has tablet-style lines drawn to make writing easy for first or second-grade students.

This is designed to be printed on 11x17 inch paper using the Tabloid setting on a copy room style printer.

Here is a video showing how to fold the booklets.

I recommend folding them for students in lower grades as it takes too much instructional time for them to do it on their own.  (This is a great opportunity to use parent volunteers, student teachers, student helpers from upper grades, etc.
