Writing with Six-Page Books

Make writing fun by using folded paper to engage elementary students. Use the templates in the workbook below to print then fold the booklets for younger students or use with older students and let them fold on their own. The video shows how to fold the paper to create a 6 page mini-book. Pair this activity with a digital resource like EPIC!, PebbleGo and PebbleGo Next, a virtual or real field trip, or BrainPop to increase engagement.

Six-Page Book and Continent Cube Template

Sixpagebook-Templates
These templates use 8x10 copy paper.

Select a template from the options in the workbook.

  • States of Matter

  • Citizenship

  • Biography

  • Writing Outline

  • Three Branches of Government

  • States (USA)

  • Virtual or Real Field Trips

  • Continent Cube

Text can be altered on the pages by double clicking in the box. Some boxes are inverted so that when folded, the layout is correct.

I recommend printing each page and folding to see how the alignment works. Some adjustment may be necessary depending on printer settings.

Other book templates can be created by copying a page in the workbook and changing the images directly on the page to match lesson requirements.

How to Fold a Six-Page Book

I recommend folding the books ahead of time when working with younger students. (K-2) Students in grades 3-5 should be able to fold their own booklets after they have been taught how to do so.

Build community in your class by creating work teams and having team race to see which teams can get all of the books created correctly in a given amount of time. Provide the paper and a link to the video and watch the fun. Students will support each other, and since they are working toward a time goal every group can win.

Don't forget scissors!

Six-Page Booklet for the Littles (K-2)

Students in the lower grades love to write but they need a little more space than an 8x10 booklet provides. Many of them also need lined paper to help as their physical writing ability develops. This template provides lines and is printed on 11x17 paper.
