For Teachers
Recommended Grade Level: 3rd - 6th* grade students
*This lesson can be delivered with younger students with the teacher 'driving' through the world and pausing to let the students make the decisions, then discussing the reasons why and the consequences of each decision. Pause between scenes in the world to allow students time to write about it.
Minecraft Level of Difficulty: Easy
Time for lesson: 30 - 60 minutes depending on ability level
This world guides students through a series of activities that teach them about safe behaviors when playing, interacting, and shopping online. Use the six-page booklet template for students to document their learning and add writing to the lesson.
Before the lesson:
Decide how to assign the world. I recommend posting the link to the world in an LMS.
Identify Minecraft experts in the room to provide help when needed.
Print certificates for completion before the lesson and give them to students as they finish. (Certificate is found after the last interaction is completed.)
Print and fold six-page booklets for the writing element of the lesson.
Make sure Minecraft Education Edition is installed on student devices.
Provide students with their email and password for accessing Minecraft.
During the Lesson:
Explain how to move (WSAD Keys) and right-click.
If this is the first time using Minecraft with students, model the first interaction with the zombie at the door so students understand how it works.
Pass out writing booklets while students are working in the world.
