Google Meet - (15 - 30 minutes, we'll see how it goes! LOL!) I will be opening up a Google Meet (a live, online meeting ) at 11:00. Any students who are available are welcome to join. To join the Google Meet, you will need to go to our 1B Google Classroom and click on the "Join" button (I think it is a burgandy rectangle) on the left hand side of the screen at 11:00.
It is very important that when you join the meeting, you turn off the mic on your device - you will be able to do that when you join the meet by clicking on the little red circle with the microphone icon along the bottom of the screen. It should have a line through it if it is off. If everyone has their mics on it will be too loud with all of the voices and background noise. If a student has something they want to say to the group, they can click on the little circle with the hand icon along the bottom - that means "raise your hand" then when it is their turn I will ask them to turn on their mic (by clicking on the little red circle with the microphone icon) then they will need to turn it off when their turn is over. This is probably new to all the kids (and most parents!) so your help figuring it out the first few times will be very important! Thank you!
This will be my first time 'hosting' a Google Meet so I apologize in advance if there are some kinks to work out at the time - as we try these things out we'll learn together and it will get easier as we go (fingers crossed!) Thank you again!
Materials needed: Device to access Google Classroom
Reading - Find a comfy spot around your house and do about 20 minutes of reading. This could be reading to yourself the whole time or part of the time reading to yourself and part of the time reading with a partner (sibling, babysitter, adult), taking turns reading to each other.
Materials needed: Books that were sent home before Christmas.
Literacy - Squirrel's New Year's Resolution by Pat Miller (about 20 minutes)
Go to the "Classwork" tab on our Google Classroom (The link to our Google Classroom is on our Home Learning Page). You will see the "Classwork" tab at the top of the page. We usually use the "Stream" tab but the "Classwork" tab can also be used to assign work to the class. Click on the Squirrel's New Year's Resolution link. It has a Google Slides presentation with a link to the read aloud and some comprehension activities to do after you listen to the story. Google slides has 2 modes -' Edit' and 'Present'. For this slide presentation you leave it in 'Edit' mode (slides open automatically in Edit mode) so you can click and drag the letters/animals for the comprehension activities.
Materials needed: Device to access Google Classroom, paper/post-it and pencil optional for writing down a New Year's resolution
Writing - Journal Entry (about 20 minutes)
Think about all that has happened since we left 1B on December 17th.... that was 20 days ago!!! Pick a couple of things to write about (like a journal entry that we do on Mondays at school). You could tell me about your Christmas, about playing with friends or cousins, about things you've done on your days off or about any adventures you've had... Remember to leave spaces between your words and for those tricky words that you don't know, remember to s-t-r-e-t-c-h them out like an elastic to hear as many sounds as you can. Try your best. Also remember to use things around you like books, signs and your word ring (if you have it) to help you write words. It would be nice to have 2 (or more) sentences. You can add a picture and some color too.
Materials needed: Your choice of the writing paper that was sent home (lines on the bottom with a blank area at the top for a picture), a pencil, eraser and coloring tools
Math - (about 25 minutes)
1) Find the numbers cards (0 - 20) printed on 2 sheets of card stock paper that were sent home before Christmas (they say "PEI Black Line Master" at the top of the pages). Cut out the cards. Mix them all up and practice putting the numbers in order from 0 - 20 a couple of times. Keep the number cards in a ziplock bag or container so you can use them again another day. (7 minutes)
2) Use your blank hundred chart in the plastic page protector and your whiteboard marker to practice making the numbers on the hundred chart. You also have a hundred chart on blue card stock to use as a reference if you want to use it. See how many numbers you can fill in on the chart in 8 minutes. It's okay if you don't complete the whole thing!
3) Use the deck of cards that was sent home to have a game of Go Fish with a sibling, babysitter or adult. (10 minutes)
Materials needed: Number cards, scissors, blank hundred chart (in plastic page protector), hundred chart for reference (printed on blue card stock I think), whiteboard marker, deck of cards.
Health and Well-Being - (about 20 minutes) On our Google Classroom under the "Classwork" tab, I have added a link to a Cosmic Kids Yoga video. Join Jaime and Jaybob today for some yoga at home! Find a spot where you have some space to move around. If you have a mat or blanket to put down on the floor you can use it but you can do it without as well.
Materials needed: Device to access Google Classroom, mat/blanket (optional)
Specialist Class - Music or Phys. Ed- Check out Ms. Syndi's Music site for Home Learning or Ms. Ross's site for Phys. Ed. You can find them through this Google Site - they are both under the "Students" tab at the top of this page but I will also link them below.
