Hello 1B Parents,
Since our Home learning has been extended another week, Westwood's Resource teachers will be connecting with the students they usually work with at school to make sure everyone is doing okay with home learning and to offer additional support. So, if your child usually participates in a literacy support or skills group with Mrs. Natalie (Engroff), you can expect to hear from her in the next couple of days. Our Resource Program does have it's own Google Site, which is linked under the Student's Tab at the top of the page if you would like to check it out. There are lots of great resources on there for everyone!
Google Meet - There will be a Google Meet at 11:00 today for anyone who can join.
Time: about 30 minutes
Materials Needed: Device for accessing Google Classroom
Reading - Snuggle up in your coziest spot with your books and read. You can read to yourself or ask a sibling, babysitter, parent, grandparent, etc. to partner read with you - take turn reading and listening to each other. Another option is logging into Epic! (it is linked on our Google Classroom) and reading some books online.
*** If your student is finding that they have read the books they have at home over and over, Epic! does have some books at their level to read, as well as books at higher levels that the computer reads to them. I have put some books into each student's Epic mailbox if they want to log on and check them out - just tell them to look for the bell in the top right corner - that will take them to their mailbox. The link to Epic! is on our Google Classroom main page or go to getepic.com. You can log in with our class code - zvb9129
Time: 20 - 30 minutes
Materials Needed: Books or device to access Epic! on Google Classroom
Langauage Arts - Play Teach Your Monster to Read to review letters, sounds and words! The link is on our Google Classroom. You could also try out their new game, Teach Your Monster Reading for Fun.
Time: 20 minutes
Materials Needed: device to access Google Classroom
Writing - Journal Writing
Think about your weekend and the big snow storm that we just had. Pick something to write about (like a journal entry that we do on Mondays at school). You could tell me about being stuck at home or how much snow you have at your house or playing in the snow or shoveling/cleaning up all the snow ... remember to leave spaces between your words and for those tricky words that you don't know, remember to s-t-r-e-t-c-h them out like an elastic to hear as many sounds as you can. Try your best. Also remember to use things around you like books, signs and your word ring (if you have it) to help you write words. It would be nice to have 2 sentences. You can add a picture and some color too.
Time: 20 - 30 minutes
Materials Needed: pencil, eraser, paper to write on, coloring tools
Math - Number of the Day - pick one of your number cards and use that number to do the number of the day work.
I have created a class account on a Math website called iknowit.com where 1B students can log in to practice Math skills. Here is the info the students will need to log in:
website: iknowit.com (There is a link to the site on our Google Classroom)
Class Code: 1b123
username: the student's first name
password: 12345
I have created assignments that the students will find on the main page after they log in. They click on one of the colored boxes and math questions will pop up for them. There are directions/questions, but there is a feature where the computer can read the directions to them - just have them click on the speaker icon.
Time: about 30 minutes
Materials Needed: number cards, paper/whiteboard for Number of the Day work, reference charts for Number of the Day, device to access Google Classroom/iknowit.com
Health and Wellness - I am adding Cosmic Kids Squish the Fish Yoga to the Yoga link on the 'Classwork' tab of our Google Classroom.
I have also added a couple of extra How to Draw videos on the How to Draw link on the 'Classwork' tab of our Google Classroom. Feel free to do those anytime you wish!
Time: 20 minutes
Materials Needed: device to access Google Classroom
Specialist Class - Music or Phys. Ed- Check out Ms. Syndi's Music site for Home Learning or Ms. Ross's site for Phys. Ed. You can find them through this Google Site - they are both under the "Students" tab at the top of this page but I will also link them below. You can check out both daily or alternate between the two from day to day.
You could also check out Mrs. Dodds's Westwood Library page!
