Note to Families - In preparation for the return to in person learning on Monday, you can pick up masks and Covid test kits at Westwood on Thursday, January 27th from 2:00 - 6:00 pm and Friday, January 28th from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm. If you are unable to go during these times, you can have someone else pick them up for you. If you have borrowed a chrome book, you are asked to return it during those times as well. It wouldn't hurt to put your child's name on in (post-it/tape) to make sure it is recorded correctly upon return.

Writing - It's My Favorite Part Friday! Writing about your favorite part of one of the books you’ve read
Pick one of the books that you read today or in the past few days. Think about what your favorite part of that book was. Tell me the name of the book, what your favorite part was and why it was your favorite part. This is just like the writing activity we did before Christmas at the mat for Literacy Stations. (You can also draw a picture of your favorite part.) Remember you can use your book to help you with names and tricky words!
Some examples -
I read A Birthday cake for Ben. I liked when Ben's mom made him a dinosaur cake. I love dinosaurs just like Ben!
or
I read the book Presents! I like the part when the porcupine opens his present because the balloons bust and it is funny.
or
I read Wake Up Dad. My favorite part is when Mom says "Wake up dad!" really loud because dad falls out of the bed and it made me laugh.
Time: 20 - 30 minutes
Materials Needed: pencil, eraser, paper to write on, one of the books you've read lately (optional)
Math - Number of the Day - pick one of your number cards and use that number to do the number of the day work.
iknowit Math -

There are directions/questions that they won't be able to read, but there is a feature where the computer can read the directions to them - just have them click on the speaker icon.
Time: about 30 minutes
Materials Needed: number cards, paper/whiteboard for Number of the Day work, reference charts for Number of the Day, device to access Google Classroom/iknowit.com
Health and Wellness -Since today is Westwood's Winter Wellness Day, I think we should all get outside for lots of play and fresh air. You could pack a lunch and have a snow picnic? Build a snowfort? Make a snow volcano with baking soda, vinegar and food coloring? build a sledding track? a snowman? Have fun and enjoy some fresh winter air and sunshine! It looks like it's going to be a great day!
Time: as much time as you can!
Materials Needed: winter gear to keep you warm and comfortable
