Students' written classwork and homework will be assessed informally throughout the year, and there will be multiple opportunities to practise each of the competencies. In addition to this, there are five key assessments which are marked against the competency descriptors and awarded levels. These assess a variety of different skills and are as follows:
Greek Gods Project: a self-assessed group task to create, advertise and present a product or service linked to one of the Greek gods.
Cretan Tales - Creative Writing: an individually planned piece of creative writing on the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur written up with notes during a lesson.
The Trojan War - Heroism Essay: a discursive essay based on the heroic traits of two of the characters in Homer's Iliad, planned for homework and written up with notes during a lesson.
The Odyssey - Literary Analysis: a short passage of Homer's Odyssey is analysed to identify the effects of different literary techniques. This is an unseen task completed in timed conditions in a lesson, after developing the skills with practice examples.
Oedipus Assessment: a combination of creative writing, literary analysis and comprehension questions on the whole play, completed after the play has been studied in class.

In Classical Civilisation, students engage with the Big Question 'How do we know what is true?' in a number of ways. We consider the following:
the difference between myth and history
Ancient Greek beliefs in a subjective truth
the historical and archaeological basis of some of the myths we study
the importance of 'truth' in the story of Oedipus
the truth as delivered by the Delphic Oracle
