Poetry has been around for almost four thousand years.
Like other forms of literature, poetry is written to share ideas, express emotions, and create imagery. Poets choose words for their meaning and sound, arranging them to create a tempo known as the metre.

But why do people write poetry?
Putting words on paper can help you make sense of the world around you, express your deepest emotions, and give you a healthy way to cope with whatever is on your mind.
People write poetry to improve their language skills, spark creative thinking, improve self-awareness and expand their understanding of the world around them. It is also commonly used as a meditative or therapeutic activity.
Whatever the reason, learning to read and write poetry is an important part of schooling and with some practice, you will be surprised how much you might enjoy it!
