After main body shape is complete, students should cut the shapes for the part, beginning on the right side of the shape and cutting out the partial hexagonal hole for the hex nut.
You will be prompted to select the plane or face
Select the right face by rotating the part and clicking on the face. This step will put you into the sketch mode.
Select the polygon tool. This tool will start from the center point of the polygon to be created
Click on a point on the face. Location does not matter as you will dimension the location later.
On the left property bar, select to use the circumscribed circle. Students should set the radius to be 1/2 the size of the hex nut they measured. (It should be 6.5mm)
To set the location of the hexagon, click on the smart dimension tool.
Click on the center of the hexagon, and then move mouse towards the right side until it is highlighted orange. Then click on the line
Set the dimension as measured (should be 15mm)
Repeat step 8 except this time move towards the top flat edge. Again set dimension as measure (should be 15mm)
Click exit Sketch
When you have completed step 10 you will be at the feature property screen.
The direction of the yellow preview object should be into the shape.
If it is not going into the shape select "flip direction" on the left property bar.
Make sure that the extrusion is set to blind.
Select the depth measurement window and enter the depth that was measured (should be 5mm)
Once completed, click on the green check mark. The image above should now be displayed
This will be completed similar to that of the hexagon
You will be prompted to select the plane or face
Select the right face by rotating the part and clicking on the face inside the hexagon.
You will be in the sketch mode immediately after step 2.
Select the circle tool - this tool will start from the center point and will drag out the dimension of the circle.
Click on a point on the face, location does not matter as you will dimension the location later and drag out a circle.
You can set the radius of the circle in the property bar on the left side and enter the radius measured (3.25 mm)
Now to set the location of the circle, click on smart dimension
Click on the center and then move mouse towards the right side until highlighted orange and then click the line
Set the dimension as measured (should be 15mm)
Repeat step 8 except this time move towards the top flat edge. Again set dimension as measure (should be 15mm)
Click exit Sketch
When you have completed step 11 you will be at the feature property screen.
The direction of the yellow preview object should be into the shape.
If it is not going into the shape select flip direction on the left property bar.
Make sure that the extrusion is set to through all
Once completed click on the green check mark and the image above should now be displayed
Follow the similar actions as the previous examples except this time we will work on the left side of the shape.
Follow the same steps as the circle in section 2 through step 11, except you will just select the left face as the plane in step 2. The radius of the hole should be 6.25mm
Once you have clicked on exit sketch you will finish the cut as you did in the second part of the Hexagon only cutting in 5mm.
These will be similar to the previous cuts with a few additions to duplicate the rectangle so they are symmetric.
Select extruded cut
Select the front plane/face
Select rectangle tool and draw a rectangle on the left side
Click Smart Dimension and create the rectangle as measured (should be 5mm x 30mm)
Accept the dimensions but remain in sketch mode
Select Copy Entity (pull down on move entities)
Select all the parts of the rectangle, if not already selected
On the left bar, click the radio button for From/To
Click the bottom right corner of the rectangle to set the From location
Move the mouse to the right and observe that a yellow lined copy was pulled over
Once the two rectangles are not touching you can click the mouse to set the To location, it will be adjusted next
Click the checkmark to set the copy and complete its creation
Now to place each rectangle use the smart dimension
Each rectangle should be a measured distance from the side and bottom
This should be 8mm from the side and 10mm from the bottom
Click Exit Sketch
To set the 3rd dimension select Through All
Click checkmark to complete the cut
The part should now look like the one pictured above
