1. Students reflect on steps of the design thinking process in comparison to the Engineering Design Process (EDP) through a quiz game app.
2. Teacher facilitates a discussion on how they ranked the top 2 steps in the design process at the end of the game and why, and what they would do if they had more time to iterate and do a full prototype.
A game made using App Inventor is used as a way to get students to reflect and preview what will eventually occur in unit 3. Students may not be able to articulate their thoughts on the comparison well, but that is to be expected. By the time they get to unit 3 they should be able to articulate the comparison well.
1. Have students individually play the Design Thinking and EDP quiz game. Note that the game is timed and gives a final score while giving two chances to match each step. At the end of the game students will be asked to rank their top 2 steps in the DT process. They will receive points just for answering.
2. Have the students think pair share their reason for their top 2 steps DT ranking. After students share out have student groups from the project discuss what else they would have done with more time to iterate, then share out to the class.
3. Have students go through the steps to open an Engineering Design Process Log account.
