The objective for this lesson is to explore options to modify the makeBeat rhythm from the previous lesson using string concatenation and substring operations.
Activity 7.2. (55 minutes)
Facilitate students’ discussion on Young Guru, Jay Z’s tour DJ and producer and maker of sound clips in EarSketch, slicing an Al Green song beat to make a new beat (PowerPoint slide 2).
Facilitate PowerPoint slides on return string concatenation and slicing strings into substrings (PowerPoint slides 3-5, Archived EarSketch Chapters 13.1 (Return Statements), 13.2 (String Concatenation), and 13.3 (Substrings)).
Assign students to work on String Operations Mini Task (slide 6).
