The objective for this lesson is to learn to use the EarSketch API function setEffect. Then, use this knowledge to modify the volume of the tracks to balance sound or add additional effects such as a fade in or fade out, echo or other effect.
Activity 6.8.1 (55 minutes)
Facilitate students’ discussion on the client they chose and how they can use pitch for the mood of their client. (PowerPoint Slide 2).
Facilitate PowerPoint to explore and explain setEffect() (PowerPoint Slide 3, EarSketch Chapter 4 (Effects in Earsketch: setEffect()).
Present video explaining the use of effects (PowerPoint Slide 3, EarSketch Chapter 4 (Effects in Earsketch: setEffect()).
Activity 6.8.2 (55 minutes)
Facilitate students’ discussion on the difference between the two DAW displays (PowerPoint slide 6).
Lead students through timing and envelopes (PowerPoint slide 7, EarSketch Chapter 5 (Effects and Envelopes).
Review effects possible in EarSketch (PowerPoint slide 7, EarSketch Chapter 30 (Every Effect Explained in Detail)
Go through EarSketch example script “Envelopes” and identify parameters used to define timing (PowerPoint slide 7, EarSketch Chapter 5.2 (Envelopes with setEffect())).
Present the EarSketch video detailing the timing of effects in EarSketch (PowerPoint slide 8, EarSketch Chapter 5.3 (More Effects).
Assign the setEffect Mini Task. (slide 9)
