The Lady Cougars had a phenomenal season. They placed second in the District. Their season was better than most in the past, but they faced a fierce competitor in the end. With injuries and illnesses, the Lady Cougars fought to get on top.
The Lady Cougars started off their season with a mixed team and an unpredictable future. Their team consists of experienced players, new players, and returning players. Their main pitcher has been playing softball since she was three. Bella Rodgers is her name, and she is a fierce competitor. Bella is also a first baseman when she is not on the mound.
Bella, a few months ago, had an injury in her shoulder that caused her to stop pitching and recover. With this injury, she had many friends and family members praying for her. Bella recovered enough in time for the season. Bella, at the beginning of the season, was on a pitch count. It started with about 50 pitches per game, and the number increased quickly every game and practice. The other pitcher is Dakota. Dakota is also a first baseman, but has stepped in whenever Bella needed a break from pitching. Dakota, this year, has improved her pitching and really stepped up.
Other than the struggles, there have been good accomplishments. Throughout the season, there have been several home runs, both over the fence and in the field. Some of the home runs were hit by Bella, Preslyn Munson, Hannah Fowler, and more. The team was well-rounded in batting. These Lady Cougars put up a fight. There were several new players on the team, and their skills have grown this season. They learned techniques for batting, throwing, and base running. This blood is good for the future. The team is growing and evolving, but the team can’t grow and learn new things without a coach. The coach of the team is Ricky Frederiksen. He has coached select teams and has a lot of valuable experience coaching. He has guided these girls to success.
The Lady Cougars played Hallettsville in the playoffs, and they were unsure of what the outcome would be, but they fought until the very end. The playoff game ended in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Cougars were sadly run-ruled (Run-rule: If one team has fifteen more points than the other after the third inning, then the game is over and the team with the most points wins.) Even though the season didn’t end exactly like the Cougars wanted, they still made progress and did extremely well. The whole school should be proud of the girl’s accomplishments. Can’t wait for next season. GO COUGARS!!!
