“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” - Matthew 5:16

On Wednesday, November 13, the juniors went to Under Over for their BMW project. The class did anything from small chores around the facility to serving food, to participating in the midday service they held before lunch.

“We packaged up pizza.” junior, Joshua Deramus said. “We put two slices per package and wrapped it in saran wrap. After that, we toured around a little bit, and we decided to go over to the freezer and we put some items that they wanted to freeze in there, we also took out a lot of stuff and threw it out if it was old. I also mopped a little bit in the sanctuary.”

A few of the juniors participated in the mid-day service, with Preslyn Munson and Lenorah Wright leading worship and Joshua Fullerton giving his testimony. The sermon was very different from what the students were used to, and the experience was good for them.

“It was different with how everyone was singing, and there was that one guy that was singing the whole time they were speaking, and it was just a different experience handle,” Wright said. “It was interesting to see our class and how they reacted to that, because I feel like some of them enjoyed it. I remember seeing one of my classmates getting really into it, so that was pretty cool.”

As the students at CCS grow up with very blessed lives, fortunate enough to hear the Word of God at home, church, and school, the service was a bit of an eye opener to remember that not everyone shares that privilege.

“It was all stuff that I had heard, but that’s only because I go to a Christian school,” DeRamus said. “I guess the takeaway I got from it was that a lot of these people that are going to this church don’t have previous experience with that, but because I’m so fortunate, I already have experience with that my entire life, but they don’t know much.”

Some of the students were able to make connections with those living in the shelter and take the time to speak or pray with them.

“So, I went to the bathroom, and this lady came in with tears in her eyes and said ‘Hey, I was listening to you sing, and it really impacted me, and I wanted you to know that,’” Wright said. “Without thought, I said ‘Oh, thank you, do you want me to pray for you?’ and I did. She seemed really touched by it. I have no idea what was going on in her life, but I prayed for her anyway, and I made her day. It was so sweet. That was probably my favorite part of the day, honestly.”

Though many of the students were worn out by the end of the day, to see the impact they had on the residents of Under Over left them feeling full of The Spirit.

“It was a fun experience,” Fullerton said. “It really meant a lot for someone to get saved after me talking about my testimony and Pascal giving the sermon.”
