The ability to think is one of a human’s unique traits. Throughout history or daily living, curiosity, open-mindedness, skepticism, persistence, and other aspects encourage humanity to pursue discovery and solve many conundrums in the universe.
In 2017, Secondary Biology Teacher Louette de Jager and her team founded the Science Extravaganza for Covenant Christian School and the Conroe community. This event is hosted once every year around March and has become a tradition in Covenant Christian School ever since the founding day. The goal is to foster young minds to explore the wonder of God’s Creation and grow to comprehend God’s Intelligence through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects.
In half a decade, Science Extravaganza empowered students to experience independence by having a blast in the discovery of truth from their experimental projects. The experimental projects consist of a team of more than one individual. Throughout their adventures, students have been learning new concepts about themselves, life, and God Himself. They also pick up key skills like teamwork and elaborating good inquiries. Thanks to this event, students are well-prepared to face challenges and work professionally in the job world.
During the 2023-2024 school year, Science Extravaganza took a break from hands-on activities. Instead, the Science Extravaganza team invited the guest speaker, J Warner Wallace. The primary reason for a new format was to keep Science Extravaganza from becoming mundane and repetitive. The team was hoping this change would instead incentivize the CCS families to pursue Truth by being inspired by J. Warner Walker’s testimony and expertise in the fields of science and Creation. After receiving an overwhelming positive response from students, teachers, and parents to J. Warner Walker’s presentations, the team decided to follow the same format for the year 2024-2025 by bringing another excellent speaker, Ben Schettler.
Toward a new year, Science Extravaganza will be back with its classic format, the STEM projects. There is a rumor that the theme for this event will be a SHA’BAM! Please look forward to coming to the amazing 2025-2026 Science Extravaganza Open House. It will be fun and blow your mind.
Shout out to Louette de Jager and her team for making Science Extravaganza possible!
