For the last two years, we have been discussing Biblical Worldview, and on February 24, a guest speaker, Ben Schettler, came to speak to us. Ben is a pastor who travels around the World speaking to schools and kids. Ben works for The Center for Truth in Love. His message spoke out to a lot of the teens here at CCS.
I asked 7th grader Thorn McCormick to tell me what his biggest takeaway was, he replied, “know what we are, God’s creation, we are beautiful, and we don't need to change that.” Thorn's takeaway was wise and special because it sums up a lot of what Ben Schettler spoke about. Ben spoke about the “gender confusion” in the world. “Boys are better at being boys, and girls are better at being girls” was something that strongly hit a lot of junior high kids. People our age always fight about who is better, girls or boys. Ben just answered the argument that has been going on for years in just a few minutes.
All the kids enjoyed that part of the session. This sermon was very important for all of the kids to hear because it’s something that is actually going on in the world. The world can be a messed up place, you just have to remember to trust in God and HIS ways. 8th grader Hadassah Prejean says, “I actually liked it a lot, I 100% agreed with him. I felt like it really touched a lot of people's hearts when it was unexpected. I've never heard a message as good as Friday. Something that stood out to me is when he was talking about how girls are better at being girls than boys and boys are better at being boys than girls. Many people wish being the opposite gender of what they are only because they may be going through something really rough in their life, but what they don't realize is that God's love is everlasting, so that means that they're perfect the way they are even if don't think it's true.” This statement of hers really hits home because she shows God's love through it. She and Ben both show that you MUST show the love of God even to those who don't know it. God is the center of the universe, the creator of the universe, the maker, the king; he is love, and he loves you. The lesson showed that GOD is love even to those who don't know him. The message goes for everyone, not just LGBTQ. It doesn't just go for Moses, for Joseph, for Jesus; no, it goes for everyone, even you. God loves all, even if you don't think he does. Ben showed the love of God. You have to trust in him even when you're going through troubles. Ben said everything perfectly, and he gave a lot of junior high kids here a real perspective of life, God, and LGBTQ. Keep praying for all who have not accepted God as their savior that they can know the love of God and find him to rely on. Everyone has their problems, but it’s better to have God with you.
