As many come to learn, the glory days in high school athletics eventually come to an end. However, the athletes take with them the life lessons they have learned and the memories they have made. Student-athletes gain skills that will follow them through their college and future experiences.
As the end of the volleyball season approaches, the seniors reminisce on their past experiences and memories. The varsity volleyball girls had high hopes for their first varsity playoff game and hoped to make the most of it win or lose.
“I'm excited, but I'm also nervous, “ senior, Ava Hall stated. “We just need to be confident in each other, like even if we don't think someone's gonna be there that they are gonna be there.” That is exactly what she did when she stepped onto the court for playoffs on Tuesday, November 5th.
Junior, Hannah Fowler stated, “I just want to be proud about how I played [and] just play to my best ability so I can say…I played my hardest and I don’t regret that game.” A great mentality follows a great athlete, and in the sport of volleyball, your mentality affects how you play on the court. When asked what qualities a volleyball player most requires, senior, Chloe Cummins stated, “patience with the coach and yourself. Perseverance… and just trusting God that he will use it for good.” Hall agreed, “self-determination that you can do it. We all believe like that [you] can do it.” Both characteristics are invaluable to a volleyball player, as the seniors mentioned. Most importantly, these qualities develop as a player consistently works on them, just as these girls have done.
The seniors end their season reminiscing about their favorite memories, ones that will follow them through life. “Van rides have always been enjoyable… I have fun listening to the conversations y’all have,” Cummins replied. “I really did enjoy this year, like our tournament at the beginning of the year, that was fun, and like…the small things that make volleyball enjoyable.” Memories are easy to make and hard to forget. Hall said, “Practices, like whenever we’re just all having fun, and…we’ll take it seriously, but we’re just all joking around and having fun.” These girls will have wonderful memories gained from volleyball to carry throughout their lives.
