On February 19th, the officers and representatives of our CCS Key Club went to a lunch hosted by the Kiwanis Club. The officers had a wonderful time reminiscing about past service opportunities and sharing their future plans with the members of the Kiwanis Club.
“The Kiwanis Club is a service organization,” Key Club coordinator, Ms. Severson, said. “It’s like the adult version of Key Club.”
Established in 1952, the club consists of seven lead members with similar roles to a cabinet: President, Treasurer, Vice President, Secretary, and more. After two years, the President position is passed down to the Vice President and the past President serves as an Elder, many of which Key Club met at the luncheon.
“They talked about how…they’re involved in their organization,” president, Hannah Fowler, stated. “They presented a check to help provide for Covenant’s Key Club for future projects.”
The members of Key Club were given a check that will essentially help provide the club with more materials needed for the many service projects that the group partakes in each year.
“What I found was interesting was how long the club has been going on for,” Fowler explained. “Especially how they’ve just been helping the community.”
The Kiwanis Club met every Wednesday afternoon to discuss new ways to help their community as well as figure out which groups they could provide service opportunities for. They impact not only the communities they work in but also the people they meet and help out.
“I love it! I think it’s good for both sides,” Miss Severson said. “For them to see what we’re doing and us to see what they are doing…Just the connections that you have with the people in the same community that we’re in.”
