I am very proud of how well the students did on their reading assessments! Now we will have two books that will come home on Mondays. Have them read and concentrate on just one book on Monday night, the 2nd one Tuesday night, and review both on Wednesday and Thursday. Their reading should become more fluent on Wednesday and Thursday night. Don't forget to ask a couple of questions about the story after listening to them read. The books will need to be sent back and will be collected from the folders on Friday morning. Please keep the books stored in their folders so they will not get lost.
We have been sounding out words often as we read and write them in class. I encourage you to do the same at home and practice over the break. Our purpose is to help the students develop a love of reading and writing, and to feel good about their developing skills! Please encourage them to try to sound out, and remind them to point to the words they are reading, commending their efforts as they try! Remember, this is a developmental skill, and it will develop at different times for different children; just like walking and talking did! Try to get them to sound out holiday words, and enjoy the holiday book selections that are available everywhere!!
We will continue working and testing on report card skills this week. Observation reports (reports cards) will be sent home next Wednesday. Thank you all so much for your help in getting them ready for this!

Friday, November 21st, Grandparents Day, will be a half day of school and buses will only be running in the morning. Students will be allowed to check out with their grandparents.
