Letter homework will continue this week; capital and lowercase of one letter in the same night. The procedure, however, will change this week. A new edition of the handwriting workbook was produced this year and the layout shifted a little. This is good news, because now the corresponding capital and lowercase letters are on the front and back of the same page. In years past they were on different pages, which is why we sent the whole books home each week. Beginning this week we will send the page home of the letter we practiced in class on the return side of the folder. Please make sure they are taking their time, and completing it neatly! Continue reminding them to hold their pencil correctly and keep their middle finger UNDER the pencil, and make sure their homework is done in pencil! If they are having trouble with the way they are holding the pencil, please let me know and I will send a pencil gripper home for them to use. The second sight words rapid reading chart will come home this week. These can stay in the return side of their folder or be returned on Friday mornings. Please remember to have them read the chart three times, whether you are timing it or not. If you are not recording times, please have them initial the bottom each time they read the chart, indicating that it has been completed.

We tested the kids on the first set of sight words on Friday and they did great! If you see that there are words they are struggling with at the end of the week, after reviewing them on their Rapid Reading Grid every night, please put the words they are having trouble remembering on flashcards, and continue reviewing them with the new words each week. They will be tested weekly on the words we are focusing on from the week, along with the words that have already been introduced.
Don’t forget to check your child’s folder EVERY night, empty the “Leave at home pocket” if there is anything in it, and initial their conduct sheets! Thank you so much for all your help!

"VIP"
Virtues in Practice (VIP) is a program CCS has to help children grow closer to Jesus by imitating His life and virtues. It is
set up in such a way that our whole school studies the same virtue each month, to provide a whole-school
(and at home, whole-family) focus. The program covers (27) virtues over a three-year cycle, with (81) Saints held
up as models of the virtues. Our September virtue is Charity and we are learning about St. Gertrude.

If you have not sent back the decade of prayer beads we made in class, please send them back to school, we will be using them to pray in class beginning this Monday.
The Mary prayer card and metal rosary ring can stay at home
and be used to practice saying their prayers with you!
