Teachers within the middle school meet regularly to communicate in grade level teams to discuss the progress of individual students. All aspects of the students’ progress are discussed including their academic, social, and emotional development. The goal of these meetings is to develop strategies to assist our students to be responsible and internally motivated to do their personal best. Every attempt is made to help them achieve our learning expectations.
For those students identified as needing additional support, various recommendations are made. These could include parent conferences, referral to the counselor or principal, recommendation for a weekly progress report, inclusion in the learning support class, or other recommendations.
It is the philosophy of Canadian Academy to foster the optimum development of each student’s capabilities by providing a college preparatory education in the English language. When a student is admitted to Canadian Academy, it is the school’s belief that the educational services provided will enable him/her to successfully meet grade level expectations.

Counseling Services
If a student is identified as possibly needing one of the interventions listed above, he/she is referred to the grade level team who collaboratively develop strategies to support the student first within the classroom. Possible strategies recommended by the team include some of the following:

tutoring services
parental contact
summer educational remediation
referral to the counselor

If these improvement strategies have been attempted and have not proven successful, Student Support Services may determine if additional assessment is needed and a formal screening and/or referral for a psycho-educational evaluation may be required.
