Role models
Younger students often imitate the behaviors of older students. Thus, Grade 12 students have an extra responsibility to be appropriate role models. In the past, seniors sometimes became involved in inappropriate pranks which proved disruptive. To safeguard the physical safety of students and to protect the school from vandalism, the Board of Trustees developed a policy outlining consequences for those students involved in a prank. For purposes of the policy, a prank is defined as “any illegal act or vandalism as it relates to school and other’s property, or any other related acts which damage the reputation of the school or its employees.” The policy states that “Any student involved in a school prank will be suspended. While under suspension, students will not be allowed to attend classes nor participate in such school programs as the prom, Graduation, sports, banquets, and award ceremonies. Other necessary actions including the rescinding of scholarships or service awards and notifying colleges will be considered.”
Senior Privilege
Due to their maturity, Grade 12 students may be granted some opportunities not ordinarily given to younger students. These include the use of the elevator, “open” campus privileges in second semester of senior year, and dismissal from classes prior to the official end of the school year. It is important to remember that rights and responsibilities go hand in hand.
With this privilege comes the following responsibilities:
Students must be on time for all classes and attend all Extended Advisories unless genuinely too sick to do so.
Students must maintain fewer than 3 tardies during semester 2. If tardies exceed 3, the privilege will be revoked for one week.
If a student does not have class the first period of the day, he/she/they MUST SIGN IN IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL OFFICE. This is necessary for emergency purposes. Failure to sign in may lead to a student losing the privilege.
Students may not sign in for another student. Doing so will result in a two-week loss of the privilege.
If a student does not have class the last period of the day, the student MUST SIGN OUT IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL OFFICE. This is necessary for emergency purposes. Failure to sign in may lead to a student losing the privilege.
Students should avoid loitering around the campus perimeter when off campus. This includes the dormitory area which is off limits to all - including dorm seniors.
Grade 12 students should be role models and good ambassadors of CA while on and off campus by avoiding illegal and/or loud, boisterous or inappropriate behavior that would attract negative attention.
A violation of any of these responsibilities (or a violation of other school rules and procedures) could cause the School to revoke this privilege.
