Canadian Academy believes that students’ academic success comes first. Unless students can be successful in the classroom, they should not spend time after school with extracurricular activities.
Students who earn a GPA of less than 2.00, or who fail an academic subject, may lose their extracurricular eligibility, depending on the student's learning attitudes. The Principal reviews the student's learning attitudes, meets with the student's teachers, and makes the final decision on whether participation in the activity will be allowed. If participation is allowed, students will need to fill in a form documenting their strategies for improvement in each subject of concern. Students will not be permitted to miss school for activity trips or other scheduled events unless they are passing all of their courses at the time that the arrangements are made by our Activity Director.
Review of student grades for the purposes of extracurricular eligibility occurs formally four times per year. The Principal and the Activities Director also review grades prior to travel arrangements being made for APAC event. Ineligibility will continue until the next check in period when a new set of grades are reviewed. Students may have their eligibility revoked should their grades significantly drop during the semester.
The following activities have been designated as “extracurricular” and require students to be academically eligible: Athletics, Student Body Council, Model United Nations, performances in extracurricular class events/activities and APAC events. Participation in academic field trips is ordinarily allowed.
