This week will be a busy, full week of learning! We will be learning about the life skill of integrity over the next two weeks. Yesterday we had a special assembly about pedestrian and bike safety. It was a rocking assembly with fun music to help the children remember the rules of the road! See is your child can tell you the 2-2-2 rule for bike helmets!
This week in reading workshop, we will be working as "big kid" readers on reading longer words and reading with expression and fluency. Students will practice reading a part of their book aloud to a partner and notice the punctuation and font changes that affect how a story is read. In writing, we continue to develop our small moments, this week adding feelings to our small moments and finding that "just right word" to make the feeling come to life. We will also practice spelling bravely and appreciating others' writing by seeing what we want to try next in our stories.
For word study, we are looking at ways to read and spell long e and distinguishing between common and proper nouns. Students will have an extra word hunt paper similar to last week's paper. This is due Friday.
In math, we will continue to practice measuring in centimeters and also solve problems comparing measurements and making tape diagrams. Our final lesson this week will involve solving two-step word problems with measurement. The assessment for this module will be next Monday. Module 1 assessments will be send home in this week's Thursday envelopes.
Please remember that we have P.E. on Wednesday, so proper shoes and a hat are recommended.
For the next two weeks, we will have our annual color days. Dressing in colors each day is encouraged but not required.

The reading log is to keep track of nightly reading at home and is part of the San Jose Sharks "Reading is Cool" program. It is due back at the end of the month. Remember, nightly reading can include independent reading, reading aloud, and listening to a grown-up read. 20 minutes each night is recommended. Students may bring books home from school to read. They can be both classroom and school library books These books come home in a plastic zipper pouch. Please help your children build the habit of keeping school books in the pouch when they are not being actively read. This helps prevent mix-ups with public library books and personal book collections.
Please sign up to HSC Membership Toolkit to receive emails from the Room Parents about your child's classroom needs and how you can best support their teacher, as well as for communications about the HSC school events and programs:

As a reminder, second graders are dismissed near the white picket fence of the garden, just outside the dismissal gates. I will be walking them to that spot, so if you could meet your child there, I would appreciate it. Thank you!
If you have not had a chance, please take a moment to fill out this survey with a little information about your child. I really appreciate it!
