This week we will be kicking off our Monarch Butterfly PBL! Together we will create a driving question around educating others about the importance of keeping the monarch butterfly population. We will also be working on new addition and subtraction strategies in math. As a reminder, these are strategies, and just like shoes, we need to try them out with the ultimate goal of finding a strategy that works best for us. In writing and reading, we continue to work on nonfiction. In addition to the PBL, we will also be learning a bit about tide pools in preparation for our field trip to Natural Bridges. Please be sure to read the section below about our field trip this Thursday!
We have our field trip to Natural Bridges on Thursday, Nov. 6th! I will be sending an email with more details later this week. If you volunteered to join us, you should already have received an email from me.
A couple of things to remember:
Make sure your child has layers of clothing to stay comfortable.
Don’t forget to pack them a lunch if you didn’t order a school lunch.
Make sure they have comfortable shoes with socks to walk in. We will be walking on some trails.
They will be responsible for carrying their own items other than their lunch.
Please make sure your child has a snack they can carry with them and dispose of easily. Label packaging with their name and "snack" if possible, so they know it is not their lunch.
I recommend they bring a water bottle as well.
I will have some Ritz crackers and some extra water on the trail for students who forget snack.
A small bag or backpack may be helpful for them to carry their items.
We will not be visiting the gift shop.
We do not return to Steindorf until approximately 4:00pm on Thursday 11/06
Join us in celebrating Digital Citizenship Week! Each day, students will explore an important theme to help them become safe, responsible, and kind digital citizens:
Monday (Critical Thinking): Learning to think carefully about what they see online – Wear a cap to show you think before you click!
Tuesday (Curiosity - Superhero Day): Being safe explorers as they discover new things online – Wear a superhero shirt or cape!
Wednesday (Creativity - Creative Hair Day): Expressing themselves and understanding their digital footprint – Wear a creative hairstyle and let your creativity shine!
Thursday (Human Connection - Twin Day): Prioritizing kindness and face-to-face connections – Dress as twins with a friend and celebrate friendship!
Friday (Healthy Habits - Pajama Day): Building balanced and mindful tech habits – Wear your pajamas as we focus on healthy habits!
Talk with your child about what they're learning and how they can be positive digital citizens at home and school.

The reading log is to keep track of nightly reading at home and is part of the San Jose Sharks "Reading is Cool" program. It is due back at the end of the month. Remember, nightly reading can include independent reading, reading aloud, and listening to a grown-up read. 20 minutes each night is recommended. Students may bring books home from school to read. They can be both classroom and school library books These books come home in a plastic zipper pouch. Please help your children build the habit of keeping school books in the pouch when they are not being actively read. This helps prevent mix-ups with public library books and personal book collections.
