Hooray for the 100th Day! Can you believe tomorrow, Tuesday, is our 100th Day of School? We are going to have fun tomorrow doing some fun 100th day activities and exercise challenges. Tomorrow is also our Information Writing Celebration. All parents are welcome to attend to see the writing your child has been working on and give feedback to your child and other children. Please do not worry if you can't attend. There will be plenty of adults to offer your child positive feedback.
This week, we will begin a short unit on biographies. Students will be exploring biographies about various heroes in our world, past and present.
In math, we will be working on 3-digit subtraction, including subtracting across zeroes. This can be a really tricky concept, so we will continue to review this into next week as well.
On Thursday, we will have some fun in the afternoon cleaning out the butterfly garden.
Our life skill is patience for this week and next week. Today, we brainstormed what being patient looks like and sounds like. In SEL, we will work on showing compassion and predicting feelings.
You are invited to attend our 2nd Grade Information Writing Celebration on Tuesday 1/27 from 11:50-12:15. You will have a chance to read your child's information writing as well as offer compliments to other students and their writing pieces. It is a special time for the students to show off their hard work.
We are having a book swap!
Please take a moment to search your house for gently used (school-appropriate) books to swap.
Bring them to your class on January 26th, 27th, and 28th.
Kindergarteners will pick up your books.
You can swap them for different books when your class visits.
Classes will swap books on January 29th and 30th.
Students are welcome to visit KB at any time in February to exchange books.
Middle school students can continue the book swap in Room 12.
**There will be 2 categories- picture books and chapter books.

Linked here is a document with 300 high-frequency words students should be comfortable reading and spelling by the end of this school year. They are good words to watch for and correct in any writing they might do at home. An activity from time to time would be to have your child write down 10 of them and see how they do.
This chart might be helpful as a reminder of strategies we have worked on in class.

2/2/26 Read-a-Thon begins!
The reading log is to keep track of nightly reading at home and is part of the San Jose Sharks "Reading is Cool" program. It is due back at the end of the month. Remember, nightly reading can include independent reading, reading aloud, and listening to a grown-up read. 20 minutes each night is recommended. Students may bring books home from school to read. They can be both classroom and school library books These books come home in a plastic zipper pouch. Please help your children build the habit of keeping school books in the pouch when they are not being actively read. This helps prevent mix-ups with public library books and personal book collections.
