This week we will continue to build our class community and practice procedures in class and around the school. We will also complete some district assessments.
In math, we will be starting Module 1, "Sums and Differences to 100". We will be working on fluency of facts to 20 as well as adding and subtracting strategies for numbers within 100. In addition, we will be learning how to work together on vertical surfaces, a best practice in mathematics education. This practice has been implemented throughout Steindorf in many grades, and we are excited to try it this year as second graders to enhance the quality and depth of our mathematical thinking.
In reading, we are working on building our stamina to read independently and practice quiet working during the workshop time.
8/28 - Back to School Night-6pm
9/1 - No School - Labor Day
9/19 - Picture Day
Your children have a blue homework folder. This folder should come home every day and come back to school the following morning.
Starting this week you will see a nightly math homework page. It would be wonderful if your child was reading books for a bit each night as well.
I will share more helpful information about homework and the classroom during Back to School Night on 8/28 at 6pm in Room 3.
If you have not had a chance, please take a moment to fill out this survey with a little information about your child. I really appreciate it!
As a reminder, second graders are dismissed near the white picket fence of the garden, just outside the dismissal gates. I will be walking them to that spot, so if you could meet your child there, I would appreciate it. Thank you!
