5.5 Vocabulary & Author's Purpose
queasy - feeling nauseous, as in the stomach
dramatic - exciting; full of action or feeling; like a drama
booth - a stall or stand (as at a fair) for the sale or exhibition of goods
arch - something with a curved shape such as a rainbow
forbidden - not permitted or allowed
scowling - to draw down or contract the brows in a sullen, displeased, or angry manner
streetlamp - an outside light on a pole along a public street or highway
Author's Purpose
The author's purpose is the reason for writing a text. An author may write in order to persuade, inform/teach, or entertain. This forms the acronym of PIE which helps you remember the three main types of author's purpose. An author may also write to express their opinion or feelings about a topic.
