1.3 Vocabulary & Sequence of Events
hibernated - a plant or animal that spends the winter in a dormant state (deep sleep)
nuisance - an obnoxious or annoying person
wrath - strong, stern, or fierce anger
herb - any plant with leaves, seeds, or flowers used for flavoring, food, medicine, or perfume
mildew - a thin, whitish coating consisting of a fungus, growing on plants or damp material such as paper or leather
antique - an item dating from a period of time long ago
grove - a small wood, orchard, or group of trees, usually with no underbrush
X pseudonym (pseud.) - a fake name that authors sometimes use to publish books
X receiver - the part of a phone connected in the earpiece, in which electrical signals are converted into sounds
X quivering - to shake with a slight but rapid motion; tremble
X = not a tested term
Sequence of Events
Sequence is the order in which things happen in the story - what happens first, next, last. In addition, parts of the story can be referred to as occurring before or after other events. Picturing the story in your mind as you read may help you remember the order of events.
