We have been learning the multiplication and division facts for the two times table. Quick recall of these facts is really helpful in lots of areas of maths!
The ‘Hit the Button’ game is a great way to revise these facts https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
We have been carrying out investigations to find out about the best conditions to grow a plant.
The children are learning how to draw a Picasso style portrait, have been participating in a significant person treasure hunt and have been investigating arrays in our workshops. In the corridor spaces the children have been dressing as significant people and interviewing each other, writing fact files in the reading room and working on their fine motor skills! Please look at Google Classroom to see more photos of what we have been up to!
This week we have been reading and talking about the life of Jane Goodall. The children have enjoyed learning about her life and impact she made on our understanding of chimpanzees. We have been using our writing skills to write a biography about her life. In our reading lessons we have also learned about some other significant people!
In Phonics we have been revising the ‘le’ grapheme (e.g bottle, giggle, wobble)
We have been thinking about trusted adults and who we can go to if we need help.
We have started our new topic, all about Significant People. We have been looking at chronology and timelines, and have been discussing what makes someone significant!
We have been learning how to draw a realistic portrait. We are going to use these skills to draw and paint a significant person over the coming weeks!
Please check the google classroom each Sunday for full details of homework tasks

Significant People Day - Monday, 30th March 2026
On Monday the 30th March it is Significant People Day! On this day the children should come to school dressed as a significant figure from history that they admire who has had a positive impact on the world!
Next week, the children will be given homework to think about who they would like to dress up as and why they are a significant person.
On this day we would also like to invite parents to come to our Year 2 Open Morning from 11:30 until 12:00. The children will share their learning about significant people with you, as well as show you some of the other work they have been doing in Term 2.
As the weather is now cooler some PE lessons may happen outside.
Please make sure your child brings a hat to school everyday in their schoolbag.
Please remember to label everything your child brings to school, including water bottles, lunch bags and swim kits. This will help us reunite any missing items with your child.
If you would like to contact your child’s class teacher then please write a note in the PO or send an email to the primary office, and they will pass this on.
Please click here for the Y2 Curriculum Newsletter for Term 2
If your child is unwell, leaving early or coming late please complete the Absence Form and the class teacher will be informed.
Please can we request that all children come to school on the day of their swimming lessons with the following equipment:
Swim Uniform in accordance with guidelines.
Swim hats for those with long hair. ALL hats must be secure on the head with no risk of slipping down over the face.
Goggles
Towel
Pool shoes (crocs or equivalent)
A waterproof bag to carry everything in.
Please see our Swimwear Guidelines on the website.
Please do not wear 'swim uniform' into school for hygiene reasons. Please do not wear an alternative gym or running kit for swimming lessons. It's important to use only 'Swim Uniform' and the recommendations listed above in the pool, as other fabrics become incredibly heavy when wet.
We have created WhatsApp groups for parents to know about urgent messages or reminders. Email will continue to be the main form of communication. Please see our BSM WhatsApp Groups Document for all the links. Please read the code of conduct carefully before joining any BSM WhatsApp groups.
