10 December 2025

We have just finished our Key Stage One Festive Sing, and we can not thank you enough for sending all the children in, in their festive clothes. They looked and sounded spectacular!

In English

This week, we have continued to search for our teddy! We are writing a story about his adventure and are hoping he heads back to class by the end of the week.

In Maths

Maths has seen us working hard to understand numbers to 20! This is something that can be done at home, also over the holiday - keep counting and checking numbers that are before and after.

And...

This Thursday, we will be making bread and understanding where the ingredients came from and how tasty bread can be.

Our weekly talk time helps develop an oracy skill. We have now introduced all our sentence stems for the term and will be working on how to use them. Going forward in future weeks, we will share a talk time topic to share at home to use them.

We have discovered that our class teddy bears have gone missing! This has inspired us to create missing posters and describe our bear really well!

We are learning to sketch and use oil pastels to draw our call bear.

Festive Sing - Tuesday, 9th December

Next Tuesday, 9th December, we will be holding our Festive Sing. We kindly ask parents to arrive at the main reception at 8:00 AM. From there, we will walk together to the Oryx Theatre for an 8:15 AM start to the show.

All Year 1 children should wear festive clothes for the day! These can be red, green or white, be Christmassy or also be similar to party clothes.

This week, in English, we wrote a story with three parts, a beginning, middle and end. While reading books at home can you find the beginning, middle and end?

In maths, we have looked at shapes all around us!

Our PSHE session saw us sharing what we are proud of and why being proud of yourself is important.

Discovery learning has seen us exploring the places where we will have discovery learning, and this will be on a three-week rotation.

We are looking forward to celebrating National day this Thursday!

A big thank you for joining us in school this week - the children really do shine when they are sharing their learning with you. They have a lot to be proud of!

In Maths, we have concluded our unit on addition and subtraction by applying all our skills to games and puzzles.

Our PSHE session saw us reflecting on Remembrance Day and why we remember. Please do look at our remembrance display if you get a chance.

This week, we started to put our game together! The children can’t wait to take it home to play with it as a family.

Although this week was a short learning week a lot has been happening.

This week, In English we found out some of the answers to our questions about Lego. We have also started to design our own lego character.

In Humanities, we have discussed what toys the adults had at home when they were little. It was lovely to see children relay information so confidently.

In Maths, we have continued to work on subtraction while using a number line. Why not try this at home?

Remember circle your original number, jump count backwards showing what you want to take away and then find your answer.

Teddy Bear's Picnic

11 November 2025, 9:30am

You are invited into school on the 11th November at 9.30 am for our teddy bears picnic performance in the oryx and to share our learning back in class afterwards.

Parents will be collected from reception at 9:20am
Children are to wear their PE kit on Tuesday, 11th November for the performance.
On Sunday the 9th, 10th and 11th November please bring in your favourite teddy for the show. The teddy can stay in school or go home each night.

Welcome back to the second half of term 1 - it is going to be a very exciting few weeks, and we have really made a wonderful start this week!

This week, we have started our new English unit on LEGO. We have been following instructions and working collaboratively to build LEGO insects and animals.

In Humanities, we have wondered how we can find out more information about toys. Therefore, children have an extra task to complete at home with Mum about toys from their childhood.

In Maths, we have moved on to subtraction and finding the missing part to a whole. Try this at home and write a subtraction number sentence for it.

Discovery learning has seen us exploring the places where we will have discovery learning, and this will be on a three week rotation.

Our PSHE lesson helped as us understand that no matter what we look like or what we do ‘We Are Enough’. We love this book in Year 1!

In DT we are starting to design our own game!

What a wonderful week to end this half term. We really enjoyed meeting with some of you and sharing so many successes so far this year. The rest of our meetings will happen next term.

This week, we have completed our work on our non-fiction text, "Toys and Games." The children have created their own non-fiction writing about their toy.

In Science, we discussed what an investigation is and carried out a mini investigation, making paper planes.

In Maths, we have connected stories to number sentences by talking about what is happening using the words, first, then and now. Why not try this at home?

A superb week has been had in Year 1. Thank you to all the parents who will attend our Meet and Greet tonight. For those who are unable to attend, the slides will be shared soon and if you require any information, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher via the Primary Office.

We have loved welcoming the children into school this week, and we would like to welcome our new children and their families! We have been so impressed with the children’s motivation, enthusiasm and how quickly they have settled into Year One!

Our main focus this week has been getting to know the children and establishing some routines, we will continue to do this in the coming weeks. The children have created some lovely artwork of their family. This will be on display in our Year One corridor, so do take a look on your next visit.

In PSHE lessons, we have looked at a book called ‘The Colour Monster’; which teaches children about the importance of sharing their feelings. Each morning, children will enter the classroom and self-register by showing us what monster they can relate to that day. In maths lessons, we have been looking at the concept of grouping various items by colour, size or type. Once grouped we counted the amount in each and compared group sizes. Do explore this with resources at home.

We will not be providing tasks for home as the children settle and learn new routines.

Teachers will be listening to children read this week and next. Reading books will be sent home soon. We will collect books in each Sunday and give out new ones. Please keep books in your child’s bag so we can read with them in school. Reading should be recorded at home in the PO each day.
