This week in phonics, we have been focusing on the n sound. The children have been excited to combine this new sound with previously learned sounds and begin blending to read simple words. We practised reading words such as p-i-n (pin), p-a-n (pan) and t-a-n (tan), helping the children hear how sounds come together to make words. To support this learning, the children enjoyed a range of hands-on and sensory activities, including sorting objects that begin with the target sounds, blending sounds orally, and practising letter formation. They had lots of fun writing words on their whiteboards, these activities helped build confidence, engagement, and enjoyment while developing early reading and writing skills.
In Mathematics this week, we have been learning about positional language, including words such as behind, in front, between, and on. The children enjoyed placing objects in different positions and using positional language to give instructions to their friends about where to place items. We also explored simple maps, thinking about how maps are drawn and how we can describe a journey from one place to another. This learning was linked to our focus story, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, as the children thought about the journey the goats take to cross the bridge.
We read the story Giraffe is Left Out, which is part of the same series as our previous book, Tiger Has a Tantrum. During the story, we talked about how the characters were feeling and discussed what it means to feel “pleased.” The children shared their ideas and experiences about times when they have felt pleased, helping them to better understand the meaning of the word and how emotions can change throughout a story.
In Music this week, we have continued learning and singing our Monkey Song. The children have been focusing on rhythm and learning about rests in the music. They have enjoyed joining in with the actions and following the beat as we sing together.
We look forward to welcoming mums on Sunday or Monday. An invitation has been emailed to you with details of the activity, including the date and time. We hope you are able to join us and look forward to seeing you then.
Please note that the Blue EYFS Gate opens at 7:10 am and closes promptly at 7:30 am. Punctuality is very important, as FS2 children begin structured phonics and maths sessions during this time.
We are always available at the gate for quick questions or to hear any information you would like to share about your child. Please speak to us if you have anything important to let us know.
Library: Our library sessions will take place on Tuesdays. Please ensure that books are returned on Tuesday mornings so your child can borrow a new one to enjoy at home.
Please note that we promote healthy eating, it is important that snack boxes contain healthy food and perhaps a small ‘treat.’
Correct uniform is to be worn by the children, please check the school website if you are unsure. FS1 children do not need a PE uniform.
We do require a change of clothes in a labeled bag in case of any accidents. This will remain in school instead of being sent home each day.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Primary Office if you have any questions or queries.
