The Chinese New Year celebrations will be in February and we are saying 新年快乐 to everyone celebrating! We have started to inspire children's curiosity with a lovely display in the playground and we will be taking photographs with the children soon. These will be available on the Google Classroom.
We will also be celebrating the holy month of Ramadan in February and look forward to learning about its traditions, values, and the spirit of reflection it brings.
The children have started to create their own Big Red Bus stories this week - they have each imagined a place that the Naughty Bus could be hiding … in the fridge, on the volcano or even with the tortoises in the garden! The photographs are now in the books and each child is becoming an author and illustrator!
The original Naughty Bus book and Naughty Bus song have been uploaded onto the Google Classroom for you to enjoy at home. It continues to be our main theme for the next few weeks.
We have started to build some Naughty Buses too. This is a long term project and the children are developing their understanding that sometimes they need to return to a piece of work and build upon their previous learning.
This week we introduced the ‘ur’ grapheme and continued to use the theme of Sleeping Beauty. We focused on developing blending and segmenting skills in all activities.
Our HFWs were: see, going, just, have.
We used the grapheme ‘ur’ to create lists of words and wrote these into simple sentences.
In Maths, we are starting to discuss the concept of time. The children are looking at photographs of themselves as babies and toddlers. This will lead to a discussion regarding changes and reinforce vocabulary connected to similarities and differences.
Please send in photographs to support these activities as soon as possible.
We are also focusing on days of the week and using vocabulary such as today, tomorrow, yesterday, in the morning, in the evening and the weekend.
Please can each child bring in one baby or toddler photo of themselves, this will be used as a talking point in maths with a link to history and ‘the past’.
Focus children weeks have started again for Term 2. We will contact you via email when it is your child’s week - and hand out a new questionnaire for you to fill in at home. The questionnaire supports our EYFS ideal of ‘belonging’. We want all the children to feel a sense of happiness, comfort and acceptance in their daily life at school. Bringing in their photos from home and celebrating their lives with their family and friends is extremely important to us all. This term we are discussing lots of different forms of transport. Please encourage your child to choose a favourite mode of transport and come and talk about it with the class. They can bring in a photo, picture or a toy to support this project.
Important notice to all EYFS parents - Please park by the EYFS blue gate and come through the EYFS blue gate for our parent focus meetings. The FS team will be there to open and close the gate and you can wait in the cosy kitchen in the meantime.
PE is on a Tuesday (children wear their PE clothes to school all day).
Swimming is on a Thursday (again children wear their PE clothes all day). Please bring in swim wear, towels and ‘crocs’ type shoes in a small bag. Swim hats for long hair please. Goggles are optional.
Correct uniform is to be worn by the children, please check the school website if you are unsure. However, we accept simple alternatives in the first weeks of the year especially with PE and swimming kits. Please speak to a teacher if you have any worries.
House colours for PE t-shirts are sent via the Parent Portal. Ruwi is Red, Yitti is Yellow, Ghubra is Green and Bowsher is Blue.
Please can we remind you to label all snack boxes, water bottles and other items that children bring into school, this prevents any upset when children mix up their belongings with others.
Every child should bring a bottle of water every day. We are able to support them with refilling if they need more at any time. Juices and other drinks are not necessary at school - but can be given as a supplement inside their lunch box if you so wish.
If you are still experiencing problems with the Google Classroom please let the Primary Office know and we will endeavour to support you.
The FS2 timetables are uploaded into a folder on each Google Classroom.
We will use the Google Classroom for extra messages from class teachers and upload photographs of special occasions for you to enjoy.
During the course of the year, we will also upload optional activity packs and resources to use at home.
Please note that the Blue EYFS Gate opens at 7:10 am and closes promptly at 7:30 am. Punctuality is very important, as FS2 children begin structured phonics and maths sessions during this time.
Parents must wear their school badges with red lanyard on site at all times.
Please click here for the FS2 Curriculum Newsletter for Term 2
If your child is unwell, leaving early or coming late please complete the Absence Form and the class teacher will be informed.
Please can we request that all children come to school on the day of their swimming lessons with the following equipment:
Swim Uniform in accordance with guidelines.
Swim hats for those with long hair. ALL hats must be secure on the head with no risk of slipping down over the face.
Goggles
Towel
Pool shoes (crocs or equivalent)
A waterproof bag to carry everything in.
Please see our Swimwear Guidelines on the website.
Please do not wear 'swim uniform' into school for hygiene reasons. Please do not wear an alternative gym or running kit for swimming lessons. It's important to use only 'Swim Uniform' and the recommendations listed above in the pool, as other fabrics become incredibly heavy when wet.
We have WhatsApp groups for parents to know about urgent messages or reminders. Email is the main form of communication. Please see our BSM WhatsApp Groups Document for all the links. Please read the code of conduct carefully before joining any BSM WhatsApp groups.
