Parent Workshop: Student Led Session "Growing Up Online: Ban It or Manage It?"

A student-led conversation about smartphones, social media and the digital generation

When is the right time for a first smartphone? Should children be kept off social media until 16, or guided to use it wisely?

Join us for this open session where our Senior School Head Students share what growing up online is really like; the lessons they’ve learned and the pressures young people face. The heart of the session is conversation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, explore real-life scenarios and share practical strategies to support your family at home.

World Book Day

After careful consideration, we have made the decision not to go ahead with our planned World Book Day dress-up day and parade on Thursday. However, the spirit of World Book Week continues; all planned reading activities and in-school sessions will proceed as scheduled. On Thursday, students should wear their usual school uniform.

BSM Iftar

Our Iftar, which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, has been postponed. We felt it was not appropriate to hold the event given the current situation. Thank you for your understanding.

U11 MPSL Athletics Results

The U11 BSM Athletics team took part in the U11 MPSL Athletics Meet on Monday at The Sultan’s School, alongside the U12 and U13 BSM teams. Following a series of outstanding performances, both the girls’ and boys’ teams were crowned champions. Across the events, our athletes consistently achieved 1st to 3rd place finishes and broke a number of longstanding MPSL records.

U9 MPSL Athletics Meet Results

The Under 9 MPSL team took part in the U9 MPSL Athletics Meet at The Sultan's School last week. The children showed great resilience and motivation throughout the event. The girls finished 9th and the boys finished 7th out of 12 teams.

Our MVP was Zayed.

Half Term

Sunday 22 February - Thursday 26 February 2026

BSM's half term holiday will be from Sunday 22 February - Thursday 26 February 2026. BSM will be closed for all students for this week. Please see our Term Dates page on the website for all holiday dates for this academic year. School will finish at the usual time on Thursday 19 February.

Please note that the school offices will be closed for Oman Teachers Day on Thursday 26 February.

BSM Book Week: Our 2026 Book Week theme is The Dark!

1 - 5 March 2026

Throughout BSM's Book Week the children will explore stories and poems inspired by night-time, shadows, and nocturnal creatures.

To start our week, on Sunday 1 March, everyone will be invited to wear their pajamas and bring their favourite bedtime read (& teddy bear). (Primary School only)
On World Book Day, Thursday 5 March, everyone is invited to dress up as a word linked to the dark or night, a nocturnal animal, or a character from a favourite night-time story.

Across the school, we’ll all be reading The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson and The Dark by Lemony Snicket, along with other wonderful night-time/dark themed books. It promises to be a magical week of reading, creativity, and imagination under the stars!

U11 BSME Games - Results

The U11 BSM team competed in the U11 BSME Games at Cheltenham Muscat on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, facing ten other schools from across the Gulf, including Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

The BSM team were a credit to the school - not only through their many successes, but also through their community - mindedness and teamwork throughout the tournament.

PM: Boys’ Basketball - 7th place & Girls’ Football – 8th place

Boys’ Football - 1st place
Girls’ Netball - 3rd place

Boys’ Athletics - 1st place

There were also numerous individual achievements across the weekend. Notably, Wilf was named Swimming MVP and Ali was named Football MVP.

It was a genuine pleasure to lead such a talented, respectful, and committed group of students.

Primary Production: Ye Ha! Tickets On Sale!

Sunday 15 & Monday 16 February at 4:30pm

Saddle up for a rootin'-tootin' adventure with our Primary School production of Ye-Ha! This high-energy Wild West musical by Craig Hawes is packed with catchy tunes, hilarious puns, and a "gold mine" of colourful characters.

Tickets (wristbands) are on sale from Reception and the Primary Office (Child: OMR 1, Adult: OMR 2).

Collaborative Music Day (Y3 and above)

Friday 13 February 2026, 8am - 1pm

We are delighted to be hosting another Collaborative Music Day, bringing together students from schools across Muscat for a morning of shared music-making through singing, wind band and a small string group. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to collaborate with new peers, build confidence and enjoy the excitement of performing together.

Students will rehearse during the morning, finishing with a short performance in the Oryx Theatre at 12:30pm, which parents are warmly invited to attend. Please complete the sign-up form below if your child would like to attend.

Key information:

For students in Y3 and older: Singers Year 3+ | Woodwind, Brass & String Players Year 6+
Students should bring a water bottle and food (this is a nut-free event)
The event is free of charge

MPSL Gymnastics Competition

The girls were fantastic ambassadors for the school and all won at least one medal. The Most Valuable Performer was Thea (Year 5), who won both the Floor and Vault events. As well as the overall trophy!

Sleep & Wellbeing

We have noticed that some children have been feeling a little more tired recently and we wanted to gently highlight how important sleep is for learning, mood and wellbeing. Most primary-aged children benefit from around 9–11 hours of sleep each night, along with calm and consistent bedtime routines.

Tiredness can sometimes show up as headaches, tummy aches or lower energy during the school day. If parents ever wish to talk something through or have a gentle check-in, the Health Centre is always happy to help.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Y1 - Y6

U11 Boys Football Result

The U11 Boys’ Football Team finished second in yesterday’s MPSL Football Tournament held at ABA. The team went through the tournament undefeated and played some excellent football throughout.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the tournament was Jenson.

Inspection and Parent Survey

BSM will be welcoming the Education Development Trust (EDT) into school to undertake a rigorous inspection against the British Schools Overseas standards in the first week of February. To support this process, it is very important to them to hear from our parent community. As such, they have sent us a survey for you to complete to help them better understand our school.

Pret a Portrait - School Photographers

Monday 19 - Thursday 22 January 2026

Pret a Portrait will be in school to take individual and class photos of all students. Please see this document for the days each class photo will take place.

Students need to be wearing their full school uniform for their photograph. If their photo is on Thursday (Peace Day) or they have PE on the same day please ensure they bring their uniform to change into.
If your child misses their photo, please ensure they have their photo taken by Pret a Portrait on another day (Older students can just pop into the Main Hall, or you can speak to the Primary Offices to arrange). If they do not have their photo taken by Pret then we can't include them in the class photos.

Sibling/family photographs

Peace Day 🕊️

Thursday 22 January

With a sense of reflection and hope, the Senior School Charity Student Impact Team (SIT) would like to announce that they are organising a Peace Day next Thursday (22 January). Primary Students are encouraged to wear white to symbolise Peace and will have an opportunity to support the team’s charity fundraising with the sale of popcorn and bracelets for some year groups. In addition, the SIT team will be creating and sharing videos promoting kindness and unity across the week!

All proceeds will be donated to the Oman Charitable Organisation, supporting children and families in need. Please encourage your child to participate and help make a difference.

If your child is having their photo taken on Thursday they must have their school uniform with them.
