The BPOA has completed our changes to the entrance
The flagpole has been relocated
The electric and lighting has been moved
The new flags have been raised!! ✨
We await the completion of the NC DOT changes before we return to beautifying the entrance. We are staying in contact with them so we can keep you posted of construction and road closures if any when we are informed.
Thanks to the Roads Committee for spearheading this effort.
Note the relocation of the flag pole to the position behind the existing signage. As you can surmise from the substantial clearing, NC DOT has a lot of changes yet to come.
The area in front of the sign will be removed due to the turning lane for Northbound US 17 onto Long Leaf,
Long Leaf drivers can only turn north on US 17, and,
Southbound traffic on US 17 has a turning lane into our entrance.
We have engineering diagrams in below but no visual at this point. NC DOT has assured us that the sign and relocated flag pole will not be affected.
The Hampstead Bypass is changing the main entrance to Belvedere Plantation at US 17 and Long Leaf Drive. We are doing what we can to maintain our landmark entrance through the construction but recognize there will be changes.
The BPOA is in communications with the project manager about the anticipated changes and timing. As we get information, we will post it on our site and share a link to this page the Meta/Facebook private group for our members.
The volunteers so far are Christian Klinefelter (VP), Dave Hughes (Roads Committee Chair) and Nathan Harper (Volunteer with Easement Negotiation experience).
Dave Hughes, BPOA Roads Committee Chair, has contracted with All Star Flags for about $1,000 to relocate our entrance island flagpole to 20 feet behind the overhead electrical line. They have removed it and laid it down on the north side for now.
Dave expects that they will complete the reinstallation and bill us in 2-3 weeks. They installed and have previously serviced our flagpole.
Dave also contracted with Pender Electric Corp for about $1,300 to relocate our large flagpole flood lights to our new flagpole location. They have removed our floodlights from their cement bases and stored them. Dave expects that they will reinstall them and bill us within 1-2 weeks after All Star Flags reinstalls our flagpole. Pender originally installed our flood lights.
Since the front entrance will remain under construction throughout much of this year, we negotiated lower lawn and minor maintenance deal with a new service provider. This will reduce our costs during this period to offset the unbudgeted front entrance charges resulting from the construction.
We've reallocated the lawn service, cemetery upkeep, and roadside signage on Mallard Bay to offset these expenses.
