Safiyyah Johnson is an 18 year-old Senior at the Boston Arts Academy. She has been passionate about singing and performing, studying vocal Jazz at her school. As a young, black artist, she has been constantly inspired by musicians like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Esperanza Spalding. In addition to music, Safiyyah is an avid supporter of social justice issues like reproductive rights, gentrification, and police brutality. She loves to write and sees it as an important tool for exploring herself and the world around her. She is looking forward attending college and taking her studies of music and humanities even further. In the future, she wants to apply her passion for justice to becoming a civil rights attorney. She currently lives in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston with her Dad and Twin Sister, along with their two pets.
