Janelin’s art is about something deep and personal to her. She uses a realistic style to express her values and texture to express meaning. Janelin uses painting as her main media and experiences with architecture as a very important hobby. Janelin’s interest in art started at a young and evolved in the 6th grade when she was put in an art elective. Her passion only grew on and now she explores different medias. Through Janelin’s art pieces she expresses her past experiences and her interests. She usually uses paint but she wants to pursue architecture.
Janelin’s background is expressed a lot in her art, she’s dealt with her father being deported and the continuous fear that her would be too. Her experiences make her art pieces stronger because she uses it in a positive way to help people like her and to inform others about the reality. One of her paintings, "immigration", she wanted to paint something that was deep instead of something simple. At school, Janelin always talk about immigration and how it relates to her family. In the painting she thought about how her father was deported when she was two. This painting represents deportation happening in America, which led to them reaching out for each other from two different places in the world. Through her art she usually communicates to people of color and not only using what she went through, but using what the black community goes through in general. In the future Janelin hopes to become a successful architect who is slowly starting her own business. Using that to give back to communities and neighborhoods like hers.
