I am a classical vocalist. I create art to express my ever changing emotions. My compositions show the wide range of my vocals, that communicate the feeling or mood of the piece. I investigate the song’s content to make sure that I, as an artist, show the true meaning the composer(s) intended. Since art is a way of expressing yourself, I like to find music that I can deeply connect to, because without emotion an artistic piece would be very plain and I am not such. My vision for my music would be a genre that everyone in an audience could connect to, no matter what background you may come from. As I am an artist I was torn between two worlds, when I auditioned for the Boston Arts Academy. My family told me to go to an academic school to get a “right education”, but I followed my heart and it lead me to the school that I could start my future, Boston Arts Academy. My goals for my music isn't to make it big, it's just to leave my listeners with a sense of joy in life. I try to feel as if I came from a strong religious background for my piece Were You There by Moses hogan to make it seem like I had a strong connection to god. I feel as though the music industry nowadays changes artists for the worst. This industry turns free forming artist into small minded robots. I feel the best artist, which I sense that I am, is the ones who sing for an inconsequential audience in an intimate venue. I am influenced by those artists who write and sing about the social issues in today’s society, for example John Legend's song “Glory” where he talks about the mistreatment of the African Americans. The ones who write and sing the social and political issues in today's society are my influences. I am moved by the endless melodies of the classical genre. I feel like I make an impact when I sing the classical genre. My techniques as vocalist help me support the long beautiful legato phrases that many classical composers write. My technique also helps me give the classical sounding tone quality that these composer(s) intended for. My background hasn't really affected me as an artist, because I don't let the past influence my future. I hope to leave behind a legacy of determination and positivity.
I use my calm surroundings and the joyful upbeat rhythm of my life to create a space where I can write music that connects with people down to the soul. Famous classical composers like Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven influence me, due to the fact that they started off just like me. At one point I was just as good as these composers, and look what these musicians have accomplished. If I try to follow in their foot step, I maybe able to use my art just like them, I am very determinate when it comes to my passion.
