The Bowling Green men’s Tennis team is off to a great start, claiming seven wins, one being over cross-town rival South Warren and another against top-ranked Louisville Collegiate. Bowling Green recently defeated Elizabethtown, which was their first win over them in 10 years. Their only loss came in a tough but close matchup against McCracken County. The team is filled with talent and their top three can compete with anyone in the state: Connor Edds, UB Han, and Houston St. John. Senior Connor Edds is coming off a state tournament appearance, where he looked strong in the first round but fell short in the next and looks to go even further this year. When asked what he’s been doing to ensure better results in his last season, Edds said, “grinding and putting in the work” UB Han is a freshman who has been dominating the doubles and singles court, and has so far proved to be one of the best first-year students in the state. Houston St. John is the team's number-one ranked player and is off to a phenomenal start, starting off the season with 6 wins against each team he’s played number one ranked player. This team has depth too, so it’s not always these 3 competing high above the rest.
St. John and Han are both also playing lacrosse this season, so their ability to play both physically demanding sports is very impressive. Both players have earned a spot on the lacrosse team’s varsity roster and St. John has even become the starting faceoff man for the Purples. When asked how he balances both lacrosse and tennis without losing focus and passion for the other sport, St. John responded with, “I love the team and the solo aspect of each sport, so both motivate me and I find my enthusiasm for that.”
The Purples are hot right now and with these players’ admiration and hopes for a state title, the Purples will keep rolling and taking down whoever comes in their way.
