Every year, people all over the world say that they are going to be better, work out more, eat healthier, and prioritize their mental health. They all make resolutions that they think they will carry out for the rest of the year, but eventually, they fall off. So why bother making resolutions in the first place if they never get carried out? It’s not that people don’t want to pursue their resolutions and most of the time it’s not even due to people getting lazy, it comes down to the cost and the stress.
Looking at gym memberships, they are already pricey. For example, BAC is priced at $25-$35 per month, based on what plan you use.
Additionally, facilities take advantage of people at the beginning of the year. It is known to everyone that working out more is one of the most common resolutions, and gyms will raise their membership costs at the beginning of the year to make more money off of more people. With such a high cost, people feel like they have to go every day of the week just to get their money's worth, and that’s not an option for most people.
When interviewed, BGHS freshman Meredith Word says that her New Year’s resolution is to “Work out more and keep a steady routine.” She also says, “It’s hard to stay disciplined with school and dance.” With balancing a job, school, and other activities, it becomes hard for anyone to find time to get up and go to the gym and it eventually falls down on the priority list.
Another common resolution is to eat healthier. At first, this seems easy. All you have to do is stop eating out so much and start making healthier meals. However, many will quickly discover how hard it is to find clean food and drink and once you find something healthy, you are then faced with the outrageous cost. One easy and healthy recipe to help out this year is Blueberry Banana, Overnight Oats.
The ingredients you will need are:
½ cup unsweetened coconut milk
½ cup old-fashioned oats
½ tablespoon chia seeds (Optional)
