When we think of aliens, we tend to think about little gray men with bulbous eyes or sentient plant people. We wonder where they could come from and how long they have been around. The most important question, however, is do aliens exist. By definition, we are aliens to each other, the people we don’t talk to or even see; we know there are people out and around us, so in that regard, aliens do exist.
However, that’s just the surface of it; there is so much unknown about the universe outside of Earth. When we strip the layers of comfort away and discover basic necessities, the only necessary things are food, water, air, and shelter.
According to an article written by Rebecca Boyle for The Atlantic, it has been proven that water can be obtained from planets or moons like Mars or Titan (the largest moon of Saturn). Theoretically, air is on every planet from their atmosphere. However, it’s the deadly gasses and the different densities of the atmosphere that prevent us from taking our space suits off. Shelter and food are the two necessities that we do not know exist on these planets. However, we know that planting food and growing it on planets is possible, as humans have grown food on Mars.
These living conditions are ideal for humans and animals, which are both carbon-based life forms. It is possible that if we ever meet with an extraterrestrial being, their material makeup is something completely different to match their planet. Thinking about it, on a planet filled with nothing but sand and metals, lifeforms that need carbon dioxide would surely perish.
However, what if the lifeform’s build-up was better suited for something like silicon? Silicon is easily obtained from sand and it would make sense, with the idea that not everything needs carbon dioxide to live.
Returning to Earth activity, a CNN article reported three retired veterans (Ryan Graves, David Fravor, and David Grusch) who testified that they all had sightings of UFOs. They expressed their desire for answers from the government while warning us about what they saw.
“The technology that we faced was far superior than anything that we had,” Fravor said when asked why these UFOs are a nationwide threat. While we are unsure of what the government is hiding--if they are hiding anything at all--we should always keep in mind that there are as many as two trillion galaxies in the universe. Earth is just a small fish in this giant pond. There is certainly more life outside Earth, even if it’s outside our galaxy.
Even if life outside of Earth didn’t exist, our minds would still wander through explanations for unknown phenomena. When asked if he had any theories as to what these events could be.
BGHS senior Cody Reece responded, “I believe that there could be a future version of ourselves mocking us.”
When thinking about the unknown, it is amazing what ideas and thoughts come to us. Never stop thinking--wonders await behind every corner.
