Objective: Create a piece of artwork that utilizes your observation skills to create something that looks realistic.
*You must be looking at a photo of whatever you are creating. This photo should not be an already existing artwork.

Realism is the accurate, detailed depiction of nature/life.
Proportion refers to the relative size of parts of a whole (elements within an object). In art the size relationship between an object and the human body is significant. In experiencing the scale of an artwork we tend to compare its size to the size of our own bodies.
Perspective is an art technique for creating an illusion of three-dimensions (depth and space) on a two-dimensional (flat) surface. Perspective is what makes a some two-dimensional artwork seem to have form, distance, and look "real".

Realism emerged in France in the 1850s. On the heels of the 1848 Revolution—an event that established the “right to work” in the country—the movement introduced the idea of average, working class people, contemporary settings, and day-to-day scenes as worthy artistic subjects.
The name Photorealism (also known as Hyperrealism or Superrealism) was coined in reference to those artists whose work depended heavily on photographs, which they often projected onto canvas allowing images to be replicated with precision and accuracy.
The impressionist artists were not trying to paint a realistic picture, but an ‘impression’ of what the person, object or landscape looked like to them. (This is why they are called impressionists). They wanted to capture the movement and life of what they saw and show it to us as if it is happening before our eyes.
