Collage comes from the French word coller, or “to glue.” It is the art of gluing down pieces of paper made from pre-existing images; construction paper, magazines, newspaper, found materials, etc. Although most collages are made of paper and glass tiles, they can be created from a range of material; you can collage buttons, beads, beans, grass, sticks, candy, dirt, coins onto any surface.

Directions:
Step 1: First, prep your surface by painting on it or lightly sketch out your image.
Step 2: Plan your collage by labeling the colors (ex. light blue, dark blue) in the areas that they belong, similar to a paint by numbers.
Step 3: Search for the colors that you need by looking through the collage center.
Step 4: Tear or cut the paper into smaller pieces (no larger than 1 inch) and store them in a zip lock bag with your name on it.
Step 5: Using a water-glue (50/50) mixture and a glue paintbrush, start gluing down your pieces by working on your background first.
