When asked what you want to do when you grow up, you’ll get a variety of answers. Some want to be an astronaut, or start their own business. But one particular girl is out to save the world.
Caroline Kammerer, a sophomore with a flamboyant personality, and an even bigger heart. She developed a certain interest in marine life that turned into a full blown mission: save the oceans.
What causes a normal girl to fall in love with the ocean? For Caroline, many things. From a myriad of vacations and traveling with her family, to visiting an marine life institute, it would be a miracle if she didn’t turn out how she did.
“I remember a few years ago I went on a vacation down to florida for spring break. We ended up going to this marine life institute [thingy],” says Kammerer. “I learned about ocean conservation, right away [I] knew I was in love with the concept.”
However, as much as she loves ocean life conservation, it doesn’t extend to her wanting to be a marine biologist. When we asked her why, she hinted that she did for a while, but the extent of everything that you have to go through and the difficulties faced when finding a job in that area forced her away from that hazy dream.
She is, in fact, highly educated in this area. She is knowledgeable about how the ocean affects the whole world, and the explained to us why her mission focused mainly on the ocean, and not just environmental protection in general. “well, I’m all for saving the bees, and preventing climate change and all that but to me, it all starts with the ocean. Bad treatment of the ocean leads to coral bleaching, which is where the little fish live and get their nutrients to live off of, and that leads to the smaller fish dying off, then the bigger ones and so on. the ocean life effects land life too, so if the animals on land that depend on fish in the sea stop getting their food from there, it could completely throw off the entire ecosystem. So I guess I’m just more fascinated by ocean conservation.”
No matter the case, we still adore her just the same. Ladies and gentlemen, the kindhearted, the generous, the sweet, Caroline.
