Characteristics of an environmentalist could include being adventurous or having a passion for learning about the earth. These all describe senior Lexi Berkely, an environmentalist at Badin High School.
“I used to want to be a veterinarian when I was younger, I’ve always had a love for animals, science in general fascinates me,” says Berkely.
An interest for the topic of science is the beginning of awareness that can help the environment. Exploring nature is what causes people to want to protect its beauty.
“I am very passionate about saving the bees, they are very important to our environment and not many people know that,” says Berkely.
Berkely says, “I love to adventure wherever there is to explore. Nature is such a beautiful thing and I want to see as much of it as I can. It all started with a creek in my backyard I used to go creeking in.”
Exploring was a big part of Berkely’s childhood and affected who she is as an environmentalist today. Adventures can lead to cherishable lifelong memories.
“When I was little, I used to always love going creeking in Gatlinburg,” says Berkely.
There is a lot of the world that is still unknown. Topics like that are intriguing for Berkely to write about.
“I love to write about the unexplained, things that are left unsaid,” says Berkely.
It is clear that wanderlust and environmental issues are important to Berkely, something that one day may help the world.
