As anyone who goes to a private school can tell you, it’s not always easy. Many times there are more rules than that of a public school. Badin High School is no exception. From strict uniform policies, to the no phone rule, Badin has locked down on distractions. But with any set of rules, are those who wish not to follow. The patriots. The change makers. Here comes the revolution.
Through the years, the number of rules has increased at Badin, as well as the perception of the number of student violations. This can be easily avoided. “How?” You might ask. Why, alterations, of course.
Many students, such as Executive President, Joey Walsh, have set out to rewrite the rule book; or, at the very least, edit it a bit.
Walsh believes that some rules were better how they used to be. Like the sweatshirt rule, for example. His latest objective has been to reconvert the rule of not being allowed to wear any non-uniform sweatshirt to any sweatshirt, as long as it has “Badin” on it. He’s only trying to get it to changed for the seniors for now, before he gets it changed for the entire student body.
“Baby steps,” comments a fellow classmate. “You gotta walk before you run, you know?”
We have no word on how this is going, as the staff will not comment until a final decision is made.
How is this decision made, though? Vice Principal Mr. Sid Imhoff plays a very important role in this process. Contrary to most misconceptions due to his position, he is very supportive of anyone who wishes to attempt to change policy. He sees these attempts only as an active participation in the Badin community, openly inviting many students to draw up a proposal so that he might bring it up to the board at the next administrative meeting. He is, being the dean of students, only out to endorse our best interests.
Overall, we support change here at Badin High School, for change means progress. At Badin, we encourage change, and change we will.
