Freshmen Retreat looking to start new friendships
James Martin, sophomore, swimmer and future student at the Naval Academy. Martin has always been interested in going to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. In the Academy, students are called midshipmen and are trained for when they go into the Navy. However, not all people are accepted into the Academy.
“If I’m not accepted in the Navy, I want to go to Miami University in Hamilton” said Martin.
His goal is to be accepted into the Navy, but he has a plan if he’s not able to attend. After college or the Navy, Martin would like to possibly have a career in sports broadcasting. Martin would like to “stay as close to home as possible” to be close to his family.
“My role model has to be my mom and dad,” said Martin.
He’s close with his family and looks up to his parents for inspiration. Martin’s dad is a huge part of his life. He's the one who inspires Martin to do great things and make the right decisions.
“One reason I want to be in the Navy is because I've always loved swimming and being out in the open water,” said Martin.
It’s always been a dream of his to be protecting the seas of America. Not only does he want to protect his country, he also gets to do what he loves most, swimming. Martin is a swimmer for Badin.
Martin is excited for his future career. He can’t wait to be able to serve his country. Martin wants to serve the country that he loves, to do something right for his country and to be able to protect the ones that he loves as much as he can.
Good luck, James Martin, and thank you for your future service.
