In these lessons the students will understand how coding is used in many forms of travel. They will understand how computers are coded to make decisions based on a set of criteria.
They will start to develop their skills with Conditions.
They will then build a traffic light system using the SAMs Labs.
How have you used SAMs labs in the last lesson?
Take a look at some of the video presentations from Seesaw.
The students are going to use the SAMs labs kits in groups of three to build a traffic light system. During this challenge they can build their car and traffic light out of different materials and then add the coding elements from SAMs labs kit. See the video opposite for an idea.
They could work together and build a road and then have several different sets of traffic lights in the classroom.
This can be as creative as the teacher wants it to be.
The students would need to think logically using conditions.
For example, look at the code from SAMs Labs opposite. This code will do the following:
The exercise could be extended to include the sensor where they could build a road so when the car travels over it the light changes to green.
