Program Description and Policy Information

Required Courses and Plan of Study

1. Upon admission to the program, each MEd Educational Leadership student is assigned a sequence of courses. It is important to follow the assigned course sequence and discuss any variation from the sequence with an academic advisor. In addition to guiding your enrollment each semester, your course sequence will act as a guide when you create your iPOS, also known as your “Interactive Plan of Study”.

2. To access your iPOS, log in to your My ASU page, and in the My Programs box, click on “iPOS” below the name of your program. Then click “Graduate Interactive Plan of Study (iPOS).”

3. To complete your iPOS, you will need your specific course sequence listed under your term of admission. Click the link for the sequence you are following for the semester you started your coursework. The specific course sequence will also include the term (fall, spring, or summer) and the session (A or B).

4. The courses to enter on your iPOS will be in categories under the Courses - Course Admin section of the iPOS. Use your course sequence to determine which classes are entered under each category and the semester you will complete the course.

5. Your faculty advisor is Terrilyn McCoy. You will search for this name under the Faculty Committee section of the iPOS and select the role as Chair. 

6. Once complete, submit your iPOS for approval by navigating to the tab labeled “Summary/Submit”. Please note that a submitted and approved iPOS can be updated at any point prior to graduation.

Public Engagement and Community Externship

Students are required to complete an externship, EDA 564, in the Education Leadership, MEd program. The course is 3 credits and one semester. Students are to complete 135 hours over 15 weeks. The externship consists of the following:

• Structured field experience in an education-adjacent setting

• Guided by faculty and a site-based mentor to ensure leadership growth in practice

• Assignments include data analysis, problem-solving, and innovation pitches

• Professional resume and interview preparation and feedback

• Culminates with a social impact analysis, grant proposal, and reflective video

Culminating Experience

The Education Leadership, MEd program requires the completion of an applied project, EDA 593. In this course, you’ll research, implement, and evaluate an action research project to solve a problem of practice in your internship placement school. Project results will be presented orally and in writing. Students must earn a grade of B or higher in this course.
