Important: This program does not lead to teacher certification. For information on education programs that lead to teacher certification, visit the MLFTC Graduate Program webpage and look for a masters program with teacher certification listed.  Current teachers who hope to use this coursework to expand their teaching areas (environmental science, honors classes, etc.) should contact the department of education in their state and school district to confirm coursework meets necessary criteria before starting the program.

Important Course Information

The courses in this program may meet state certification through the Arizona Association for Environmental Education that may be nationally and internationally recognized (the North American Association for Environmental Education).  Interested students should begin by contacting their academic advisors for assistance in selecting courses and for preparing for certification, including creating a portfolio.

This graduate certificate requires 15 credits.  Some students may take more than 15 credits in pursuit of specific academic or professional goals.  Students should work with their academic advisors to create a course sequence in line with their goals.  

This graduate certificate includes coursework with a lab component where students will physically need to be outside.  Students will be equipped to complete all necessary components remotely (no travel to campus required).

Required Courses and Plan of Study

1. Upon admission to the program, each Environmental Education (Graduate Certificate) student is assigned a sequence of courses. It is important to follow the assigned course sequence and discuss any variation from the sequence with an academic advisor. In addition to guiding your enrollment each semester, your course sequence will act as a guide when you create your iPOS also known as your “Interactive Plan of Study”.

2. To access your iPOS, log in to your My ASU page, and in the My Programs box, click on “iPOS” below the name of your program. Then click “Graduate Interactive Plan of Study (iPOS).”

3. To complete your iPOS, you will need your specific course sequence listed under your term of admission. Click the link for the sequence you are following for the semester you started your coursework. The specific course sequence will also include the term (fall, spring, or summer) and the session (A or B).

4. The courses to enter on your iPOS will be in categories under the Courses - Course Admin section of the iPOS. Use your course sequence to determine which classes are entered under each category and the semester you will complete the course.

5. Your faculty advisor is Molina Waters. You will search for this name under the Faculty Committee section of the iPOS and select the role as Chair. 

6. Once complete, submit your iPOS for approval by navigating to the tab labeled “Summary/Submit”. Please note that a submitted and approved iPOS can be updated at any point prior to graduation.
